Tasted over three days. Opaque purple, with a bit of clearing at the rim.
Day 1- nose and palate are appealing and show some dark fruit and oaky notes. While nice, it is all a bit muddled and confused.
Day 2- things have settled down and this is now off to the races. Nose is blackberries and floral notes. The palate is fruit forward with mocha tones on the mid palate. It finishes with a black licorice/ anise snap.
Day 3- things are pretty muted now, but a nice fig component has become prevalent on the palate.
This is a nice qpr and a wine I’d recommend. My wife is a Malbec fiend and she loves this.
I sell them but there are some wines in Vine Connections you should have the wife try…
Tikal Patriota, Crios Malbec, BenMarco Malbec, La Posta Paulucci Vineyard Malbec, all under $20 and at the $30 and under price, Luca Malbec, Tikal Amorio Malbec, Susana Balbo Malbec, and a new wine from Tikal coming in the fall, Tikal Natural Malbec (Organic).
Nothing like a little competition to bring out the lurker in me…glad your wife liked the Tomero, as it is a good one, and yes I do represent them in here in the greater Puget Sound area. Can’t let Kris be the lone voice for his portfolio locally…
Carlos Pulenta is the man behind Tomero, which are all varietals, along with his Vistalba Corte series - A, B, and C - which are blends of Malbec, Merlot and sometimes Bonarda.
In addition, some other Malbecs to also consider Bodegas Goulart, Vinos Cobos Felino Malbec, Luigi Bosca Reserva, Vina Alicia (either the “Paso di Piedra” or “Las Compuertas” - higher elevation heading towards the Andes), and Andeluna (great value)
And yes, talk to Jeff at Esquins…they carry most of them, in fact just featured the Alicia in their recent newsletter.

Like the Tomero lineup as well. Honeymooned in Mendoza in late 07 and had lunch at La Bourgogne inside Bodega Carlos Pulenta. Had a bottle of Tomero Chardonnay-Viognier that was mighty delicious. Don’t see it in the lineup online any longer.
