2008 Matello Pinot Noir Souris Willamette Valley

Slow ox’d a few hours. Light, transparent ruby. The nose doesn’t burst, but slow builds like great music with crushed flowers, cranberry and damp earth. One to ponder for a while. Wonderfully light and elegant palate. Mushroom, earth and tart fruit with a delicate acidic cut. Medium finish and soft, but noticeable tannins.

Great bottle, a bit shy and retiring and definitely on the feminine and elegant side.

Well done Antony. Can’t remember if it was the 04 or 05 Souris, but a tip from Brian O’Donnell steered me towards Marcus’s wines a few years ago. Nice stuff. Surprisingly, the 07 Souris seemed slightly green (rarely a problem for me) but I’d imagine his 08s are loaded with potential. Not so easy capturing elegance in a young 08.
