I’m confused. I got the email describing the wines, TNs, Pax’s own take on each one…It then tells me to go to the website and sign up on “The List” in order to receive allocation. I do as much and then nothing; no email with username and password, bubkes.
What am I missing here? I thought I HAD signed up months ago…how else would I had received the release email?
Someone, whose palate I respect and is an Old World wine lover, tasted some of the Wind Gaps (not sure if it was any of these however) and said that even though he likes wines that I would consider lean and high in acid, these were too lean and austere for him, so I am not sure that I would purchase these expecting to have rich and dense wines like those from Pax Winery (although I have had a number of issues, likely associated with a combination of raisined fruit and excess acidification, with some Pax’s once they start getting some age on them). If that sounds like it is in your wheelhouse, then go for it.
I am in for following Pax through on this new course. I dug some of the Pax wines he did (mainly Castelli-Knight, WVH, Griffin’s) so it’s an easy transition for me to make. I also like the structure, color, style and the approach as a whole so it’s an easy decision for me. Yep, I had to pass on another order as I too am making different buying decisions but sticking with syrah guys who get it, like Pax…easy call here.
I bit on a small sampler pack, but would have bought more if this wasn’t coming at the end of a modest buying spree. Most of the Paxes I’ve had have been excellent, although that samples heavily from the more accessible, less heavyweight 2005 vintage. The 1st Wind Gap release was enough to convert me immediately to this winery. Every wine was good and I actually liked the 07 Chardonnays more than the outstanding 06 Syrah. I would not describe the either of the red wines in the first release as lean or austere, although the 06 Syrah has some smoky white pepper to it along with delicious, balanced blue and black fruit, and a rather low alcohol level. The SVDs sound considerably bigger and more structured.
I have not tasted any of the wines in this release.
Has anyone tried the Pax Wine Cellars version of the 07 Griffin’s Lair? Is that socially acceptable? I wonder how similar they are.
I just cracked a 06 Pax Griffin last weekend, just to be a fool. Unsurprisingly, even after a 4 hour decant on day 1, it didn’t pop open until the last glass on day 2, at which point it was just ridiculously good. The 05 was far more open after the same amount of time in the bottle.
I had the same problem initially. You entered in some of your data incorrectly. For me the syntax on my phone number was wrong. If you do it right the page will refresh and it will give you your login and password
