The wine need a few hours to open up, but eventually the heavy smoke lifts and lets out heavy bacon fat, blueberries and licorice. Tastes like a very nice big Aussie Shiraz, only much cheaper. Paid $6.99 plus shipping came to $11 per. 91+
08 is just as good; a very consistent wine over the last 2-3 vintages, some years show a bit more Aussie, some more of a Rhone tilt. Second wine from young vines for BOEKENHOUTSLKOOF (SP?), who make some of the better Syrah and Cabs from South Africa I’ve come across, though their prices have adjusted up accordingly.
Drink up, or hold until the World Cup this summer…
I tried the 2006 Boekenhoutskloof Syrah last week.
Impressive. Not cheap, but impressive.
Definitely leans Rhone not Aussie.
Nice to know the second label delivers at a nice price.
I’ve had this wine a couple times. I agree: very nice for the price.
Welcome, Ryan!
