2007 Mount Eden Pinot Noir: My WOTY so far

I attended a SCMWA trade tasting yesterday. The notes are here, but the star was:

2007 Mount Eden Estate Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains
Huge nose - cherry, raspberry and oak. Full bodied - rich cherry spice, orange peel and so much more. Long, lingering finish. Could be better than the awesome 2005 (one of my top wines last year). Buy this and cellar it. 96+

I agree Dave, that '07 ME is a real winner.

Dave- Who else was there that seemed to do well?

Read the blog post!

Loved the Kathryn Kennedys. (surprise).
Lots of good rhones coming from Santa Clara Valley - Martin Ranch Syrah,
Sarah’s Vineyard Grenache, Blends from Storrs and Clos Lachance.
Denis Hoey is doing good things with his Odonata label.

Here’s my notes: Barton Orchard: SCMWA San Francisco Trade Tasting 1/26/10" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also gave this a 96. (Paul Galli was right.)

I noticed Dave and I seem to have a difference in style preference for Cabs. I rated the intense black currant and cedar ones higher, and the softer, less interesting neener ones lower than him.

The '06 Mount Eden Cab is a big winner (94pts) and I was stunned by how gorgeous the regular bottling ($20) of '07 Bargetto Chard was (93pts).

What did Paul say about it?

JL just gave this a 92. I would normally consider that rating from him as an indicator I wouldn’t like it.

Thanks for the notes dudes.

Dave,
you know Paul is all over anything ME…can’t blame him.

Its been too long. I should grab a few older vintages.
