2007 Kongsgaard Chardonnay

  • 2007 Kongsgaard Chardonnay - USA, California, Napa Valley (6/25/2010)
I opened this with a bit of reluctance because I have heard all the great things about Kongsgaard wines and while I have some in the cellar, I never actually tasted one until last night at dinner.I was hoping it lived up to it’s reputation. The main event was a 1989 Vega Sicilia Unico and I wanted a worthy wine to serve with the appetizers. I chose this because of reputation and the fact I never tasted it before. I was hoping this wasn’t going to be yet another California chard.oak monster. I hate those wines! To the contrary, we were all pleased with this wine. The oak was present, but not overbearing in the slightest and will mellow with age. The nose was full of peach, pear and apricot. In the mouth I tasted a crisp, slightly creamy (not buttery) chard that was very pleasant. The mouthfeel had that silkiness you get from higher end Chards and the acidity was in perfect balance with the rest of the wine. This wine will age gracefully. I am happy, I have more and will be ordering the 08’s today as I just received my allocation about a week ago. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

sounds great, how were the other wines??

Let’s try the Rivers Marie Chard next time we are together…

Andy, I loved the RM chard the other week.

Rich,

Had the 2007 RM Cab last week and while it will get better for while, it was delicious and quite approachable.

Great note. This was my favorite chardonnay at a recent tasting in Fresno (the lineup included marcassin estate, aubert quarry, aubert ritchie?).

Speaking of R-M Chard, I was not a fan of the 07, but the 08 we had last week was sublime.

Reuling, Edson… and I think the Kongsgaard was voted the winner

'08 Rivers Marie Chard is the shiznit for sure. Easily beat the '08 Maybach Eterium we had side by side.
