2007 Domaine de Caillou Les Quartz

Well I was grilling a couple of good steaks and felt like something rich and hearty.

I tend to enjoy the quartz as it is a prettier lighter version of Cdp. The 07 mirrors this, but it is still heavily packed with richness and fruit (kirsch, plum and oak!). The alcohol pokes through a bit too much for my liking, I hope this simply needs another 10 years, but today the 07 is not really my cup of tea, its the alcohol heat and subsequent mouthfeel that i find unpleasant.

I love old school CdP, alcohol in balance and fresh fruit, not too ripe fruit, a good hit of herb and and element of sauvage.

I may be wrong on this wine, it will probably mellow beautifully in time, but for this taster, give me a 2001/04 any day.

I can only refer to my TN of the CdP 2007-tasting :

look for wine #9

The Quartz showed fabulously … I can only guess your bottle had not enough air … (or had something else … [scratch.gif] ) - or maybe just different palates. YES - Quartz is a modern school cdP, but a very fine one.

I think its most probably different palates…as much as this wasnt my cup of tea, I did finish the bottle…however, I really didnt like the reserve bottling…so agressive and hot, undrinkable…
