Bought on release and in temp controlled cellar ever since. Back then I was able to buy a mixed case made up of 4 each of the Cherbaudes, Combe Aux Moines and the CSJ. Even back then (in 2010) the CSJ was “expensive”, costing about USD100/bottle. This was my last bottle.
Great vineyard, great wine making and a very good vintage at its absolute peak all leads to a quintessential red burgundy experience. It is not often that you strike a serious good wine like the Fourrier CSJ at exactly the perfect time - but for me that day was today…
The colour was mid to dark red but showing some bricking on the edge. Intoxicating bouquet of red roses (or something like that) mixed with dark red fruits and some spicy notes . There is nothing quite like smelling a wine and going “yup this is going to be great”. Palate was amazing, the depth and intensity of the fruit made it seems like it was seeking out every corner of your mouth. This has Grand Cru weight and power and the requisite silky fine texture and ethereal feeling and balance.There are mature notes of forest floor mixed in there. May not be the perfect red burgundy but it was everything I wanted it to be and more. I am thrilled to be able to see it at peak and sad to say farewell. If the 2008 / 2009 / 2010 drink like this when they hit full maturity I will be very happy indeed.
