2007 Climens (Barsac) and 2001 Guiraud (Sauterne)
Two “Stickies” one from Sauterne and one from Barsac. From two excellent to outstanding vintages.
The 2001 Guiraud opened with apricot and marzipan nose. The palate is medium bodied with a good dose of botrytis. Its a moderately complex wine that is drinking quite well now. Well made. Its very supple. Very enjoyable. In one word - “unpretentious”.
Climens is probably my favourite sticky from Bordeaux.
The 2007 Climens is very young compared to the Guiraud. it is intense with a very concentrated palate. Very high botrytis effect. Its very rich and sweet. It has good acidity and has a touch of bitterness in the end. Its colour looks more deep than I am used to at this stage; whether thats just a vintage effect? There was a report in the latest issue of World of Fine Wine tasting that the 2007 Climens looks more advanced. Based on colour per se - I would say -possibly? But (to my untrained palate) the other elements and constructs suggest a longer cellar life. We will see. I might open another one in a few years to check development.
Would like to know if anyone else has opened a 2007 Climens?
