2007 Andezon Cotes du Rhone-Another Rocking '07 Value

Popped one tonight.
Deliciously fresh in the mouth.
Precise blackberry and licorice notes.
Medium bodied. Uncluttered.
At $10 in ATL money, it is a steal.
Will drink many over the next few years.
Cheers good people.

La Granacha? If so, great wine.

Just hate the name.

Just the CDR Dan, not the Garnacha.
Coehlo was singing the praises of the Garnacha in another thread.
Tonight was just their lowly CdR, and it was quite fine.

Thanks for the note. It doesn’t look like this has made its way out West yet but I will certainly keep an eye out.

Absolutely agree Dennis. Suggested this to those folks in the recent 2007 Domaine La Garrigue Côtes du Rhône Cuvée Romaine thread:

Another really killer value ‘07 CdR from Solomon/European Cellars Selections’ stables is the Domain d’ Andézon. The tannins are somewhat softer, and the wine more rustic than the Cuvée Romaine. Just a fantastic bottle of juice for about the same price on sale - $10 or $11.

For now, the Andézon is much more friendly for me. Another year at least for the La Garrigue CdR given its tannins right now.

Thank you for this note, Dennis.

When I was at L.A. Wine Company last weekend I found out they will be carrying this wine starting sometime in the next couple weeks. I loved the '05 version of this wine, and look forward to popping an '07! [cheers.gif]

Right on, Terry. In the ATL market, the Andezon can be had for $10-$11, while the Romaine is $18ish. Makes the Andezon an even greater value.
Thanks guys.

I thought this wine was 100% Syrah.

Paul,

  • 2007 Andezon Côtes du Rhône - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (9/17/2009)
    – popped and poured –
    – tasted non-blind over 3 days –

NOSE: a bit artificial/candied smelling; alcohol; smoke; beef jerky; slight citrus or honeydew aspect. Dark fruits on Day 3.

BODY: superfine particulate matter; violet-tinged garnet color of medium depth; medium bodied.

TASTE: purple fruits; smoke; well-balanced - not tannic, but does have some grip on the finish; not funky; 14% alc.; not much in the way of minerality; no garrigue. Day 3: hint of garrigue on the long finish; dark fruits; straightforward, and somewhat foursquare; bit hot on the finish; tight. I preferred the '05 version. This is solid, just not my preferred style.

B: 50, 5, 11, 15, 7 = (88 pts.)
