Roy Piper walked into the restaurant I’ve been tending bar at with a nearly full bottle of 06 Seven Stones.
Full bodied, tremendous depth, nothing missing. Chocolate covered cherries, roasted coffee and a slight green peppercorn that played hide and go seek over the hour or so we drank it. It was evolving and changing in the glass, I poured a bit for the owner and a patron, both commented it was the best wine they had drank in quite some time. I’ve been drinking a lot of whites lately and this was a very welcomed change of pace.
I’m not in the $175 dollar cab game, but this was really, really good. Good on those of you that bought it.
A little bistro in St. Helena called A.K.A. Why A.K.A. you ask? It used to be called Keller Meats (long time butcher shop that went out of business). They wanted to keep the name, but there is a big fish in this Valley named Keller already that wouldn’t have his ‘name’ on anything else.
Thanks. Great wine, best thing about last night (Wednesday’s are watch the paint dry slow)
The 05’ Seven Stones (should be called 175 Bones ) I had at TxP’s in April was also a pretty remarkable wine. He decanted that one a good 8 hrs if I remember correctly. Bill, you tried it on Thursday night, right???
Hey, I brought the Scarecrow
Actually it was better than the 06 Scarcrow, hands down. Heck, the Maybach was better as well. I haven’t had it yet but I am guessing the 05’ is much better than the 06’ I brought. Maybe my next trip to Dallas I will bring the 05’ if you do the grilling of some Flannery
I’ve had the 06 Scarecrow 2-3x’s and would be hard pressed to go over 90-91 points with it. I heard they may have used a higher percentage of young vine wine in the 06, which may have lead to the step down (IMHO).
