2006 Kosta Browne Kanzler

2006 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (5/22/2009)
I thought this was drinking very well. Full aromatics and full flavor. Everyone at the table loved this. Nice way to start the night off. The massive dark fruit was nicely in balance. Just enough red berries and acidity to keep it far from sloppy land. Long finish and although we didn’t spend a lot of time with this wine, I didn’t notice any heat or overt alcohol. This was drained very fast. This is a perfect one glass wine for my palate. I will probably open another bottle fairly soon. (92 pts.)

Jason;

Had this a month ago. We differ on this wine. I found it to be very overripe with very swet cheery and strong cola flavors. Perhaps it’s just not my style of pinot.

Well my impressions were similar … and while this is not my preferred style, I do love it on occasion. My impressions may have been different if I was sitting at home for a quite dinner but that is not when I open a wine like this. The killers for me on a wine like this are not the sweet fruit or cola flavors but heat and flabbiness. I thought this wine dealt with both of those things well.

I have been a little disappointed in most of the 2006 KB SVD’s I have had, especially in comparison to other years. Lot of fruit in these wines, typical to the KB style, but not a lot in the way of complexity IMO. Based on barrel samples, looking forward to forgetting 2006 and moving on to 2007 . . .

I agree with you. When i tasted them on pick up day at the winery i though they were all pretty mediocre with the Koplen being the best of the bunch. Everyone i was tasting with thought the Kanzler was a let down

I thought that perfect = 100? or 101 or something like that. [foilhat.gif]

What AVA is sloppy land? [1974_eating_popcorn.gif]
