2006 H by Havens Cab....any info?

Anyone have any info? Is this a 2nd label? Younger vines? Label has a Napa AVA designation on it. WTSO.com has it right now for $10.99/bottle.

TIA

at $11/bottle, not much to lose by taking a flyer on 4 bottles…I figured why not

Ditto. Was quite happy with the 06 Napa Syrah I got a couple of weeks ago. Split 6 bottles with a co-worker.

Sweet, good to hear - I picked up some of that as well, but got a little spooked by some of the CT notes. The notes on most all the Havens that have come out on clearance have been all over the map.

Slow down there bucko, its only Thursday. Save some for that grande mocha coppuchino soy latte decaf on saturday.

What language is that? [scratch.gif]

My only coffee, señor:

I’ve noticed that, too. I think there are some genuinely flawed bottles with fermentation issues for the '05 Merlot. There may also be variation in other bottlings to a lesser extent. But I think a lot of the mixed reviews are simply people buying a Napa wine on sale who aren’t used to a more Old World approach. They think Napa, big fruit bomb, ripe and smooth, and get something less fruit forward, slightly funky and tight, so they think “wine sucks.” The higher end wines are meant to age, and in my experience they benefit significantly from decanting. Someone popping and pouring a Bourriquot probably would be better off with a drink now $15 wine from the grocery store shelf.

BUT I’ve yet to sample all my acquisitions, so perhaps bottle variation is indeed a bigger issue than taster variation. I still suspect many of these wines were put in the hands of inexperienced and impatient tasters who wouldn’t normally seek out their style.

I concur. M. Havens built his wines for the long haul. More of an introspective style compared to an in your face style.

Agree as well…but that 06 Napa Syrah was oh so delicious! It does have the stuffing to sleep for a few years.
