This is a super premium Macon made by an apprentice of Jean-Marie Guffens that sells for $24 and it far exceeds the very large majority of Pouilly Fuisses at or above this price point. The vines are grown high on the rocky slopes in chalky soil and the wine is aged in 10% new oak.
This is a lush almost exotic slightly leesy Macon that reflects the 2006 vintage, but it stands out as very well-balanced, with a fresh healthy dose of minerality, acidity, and ample structure accompanied by lemon meringue, deft oak spice and, for its level, a lengthy and layered finish that fans out with floral, honey and lime zest flavors. This has surprising depth and concentration and should open up and improve for another 1-2 years. Excellent for this level.
