2005 Viña Quebrada de Macul and 2000 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin

  • 2005 Viña Quebrada de Macul Cabernet Sauvignon Domus Aurea Clos Quebrada de Macul - Chile, Central Valley, Maipo Valley (11/11/2009)
Whoa! Sweat and green herbs intermingle with espresso and smoke. Thick and tannic, dark fruits were more pronounced in the palate. Good structure with medium finish but can definitely get better with age.
  • 2000 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru (11/8/2009)
Pop and left sitting in the glass for half an hour. Deep red in color. Nose offered blackberry, plum, cigar box, and ocean breeze. Rich and thick in the palate, taste echoed the nose. Wonderful acidity. Very fine wine.

Wow, Clem, my friend, YOU are a baller…

Always been a fan of Domus Aurea. The 01 and 02 were particularly a treat. Had the pleasure to taste the 07 out of barrel and it was mind blowing to say the least. Definately an “under the radar” producer in So. America. Highly recommend seeking out the 2007 when it hits the shelves.

The Domus Aurea’s nose is pretty disctinctive and is supposed to be terroir driven. FWIW, WS gave the 2005 a score of 94 so it may not be under the radar for long. This is the first bottle I tried and will definitely try others.
