2005 Joseph Drouhin Savingy-Les Beaune

Decanted five hours before serving. Dark garnet core with a lighter rim. Pretty nose showing earthy notes, cured meat and a hint of orange peel. Nice weight on the mid palate. Tart cranberry and other red fruits dance lightly with a firm acidic/ tannic backbone. Nice finish which lingers offering some tartness and a hint of black licorice.

Not as brooding as my last 05 Drouhin (Gevrey Chambertin), but wonderfully complex and a lovely match for early Thanksgiving dinner with the in laws.

Thanks for taking one for the team on these. They were suprisingly good when just released.
