2004 Philipponnat Clos des Goisses

Has anyone tried this wine? Was considering pulling the trigger on a few bottles, but can’t find any reviews on cellar tracker/published reviewers and wanted some data points before making a decision. FWIW, my only prior experience with the label is the 2000, which I tried during a visit to the region, and greatly enjoyed.

Thanks for the feedback.

I’ll bump this. Envoyer’s offering it today.

2004 Philipponnat Clos des Goisses
(35% Chardonnay, 65% Pinot Noir; Single vineyard in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ; Steel and oak fermentation; No malolactic fermentation; Disgorged 2013; 4.5 g/L Dosage; Production of ~ 25,000 bottles; $145-215 US)
This starts out simply doughy on the nose but, with time to breathe, picks up a citrusy, meaty, spicy tinge. The palate shows freshly cut mushrooms, red citrus, and sports a slightly wild, herbal bend that intrigues the taster. Minerality really comes out on the finish, providing excellent grip. Quite young right now, it should go biscuity and open up nicely in a decade. 90-92 pts for today with 91-93 pts of potential.

Of recent vintages, I don’t think the 2004 quite measures up to the overall expression and balance of 2002 or the brightness of the 1999, but is a very good effort that meets expectations.

Thanks, Brad!
