This is a 100% Mondeuse made by Domaine Louis Magnin in the town of Arbin, which is in Savoie near the swiss border and Lake Geneva. The wine is raised in large 30hl oak foudres.
Not a grape variety that I am really familar with, but I thoroughly enjoyed this wine, especially on the second night, which indicates it needs a good decant. The wine has a nose of red berries and ripe plums, with a touch of chocolate. The palate is juicy and rich, has nice energy with crunchy red fruits and a streak of tannin. Obviously no significant oak influence which means the wine delivers more fruit and purity.
Very nice and I will be buying a few more to watch over the next few years. Not quite sure what the perfect match for this wine would be, but I had it with a quasi ploughmans lunch, crispy bread, some hams and hard cheeses, worked nicely.
