2004 Alesia Syrah "Chileno Valley"

That being said…initially reductive but not nearly as bad as some other bottles. Reduction, licorice, rich brambly blackberry fruit, and some citrus fruit. It’s rich for sure but seems to possess enough acidity to keep it fresh. That being said, Traci wasn’t a big fan. She thought it tasted like a malodorous armpit would smell. My only quibble with this bottle was that the finish was pretty clipped. Still much better than previous bottles. (0 views)

So, do you think the reduction is sudsiding Tony? I had one a litlte over a year ago and it was pretty strong. You could tell some good juice was under there, but it took a long time to blow off.

Scott - I think it is a bottle by bottle issue. Some will be really bad and others will take an hour or two to blow off.

For instance, one or two of my really bad bottles I followed for 3 days and they got worse. Starting to smell like rotten vegetables.

I agree. It is a bottle issue. The ones that are bad, have a problem.

Of course they will replace any bad bottles … with a different vintage.

The two I opened early last year for a dinner definitely had some rubber tire stank on them that stuck around after a few hours of decanting. But the palate of the wine was still great. I was hoping some more bottle time would integrate some of it but I feel like that is just an experiment.

Yeah they are all stinky which doesn’t bother me … but with the bad bottle I had, it went right to the palate … like stewed grapefruits, rubber etc. The good bottles I tasted reminded me of a young hermitage or ribera del duero on the nose.
