2003 Vieux Telegraphe & a Crozes

The recent VT TNs made me interested in checking in on the 2003 bad boy with lots of Parker points (94 or 95?). Its coming along, and though not yet outstanding has the potential. The 2005 Cuvee Gaby was a nice treat as well.

Nose is dominated by a strong alcohol note with some dried seaweed poking through. The alcohol is off-putting enough to keep one from sniffing for other elements. On the palate it’s developed a pure crunchy cherry flavor with garrigue, earth and mild anise/leather. It tastes fresh and has progressed nicely since last tasted in 2011. Not sure what to think of the alcoholic note (though it’s “only” 14.5% alcohol), but despite that I think it could develop into a star. Excellent.

Savory meaty nose. Thankfully the palate is also savory, with a nice dollop of darker fruits. Good acidity as well. This has the legs to enjoyably go a few more years. Excellent.
