2003 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde
My last bottle and IIRC the best yet. Waited an hour after opening and the glass has violets pouring out of it as it comes to the nose. Under the flowers there is meat and tapenade. Dark fruit, receding tannins and nice acidity on a long, rich finish. Enjoyable northern Rhone and wish I had a few more.
Wow, blast from the past. I had several of these, but years ago. Meat, violets, and tapenade sound great right about now…might go to the cellar for something similar
I had a chance to load up on those at $43 (bin-end sale) about 6 months ago, but declined in favor of the '97 at the same price. I guess I should have picked up a couple of the '03s for comparison.
