93 Point Cote Rotie for Under $20!
Today we are pleased to offer another very exciting supplier closeout. It is rare these days to find good Syrah for under $20 and almost impossible to find it in Cote Rotie, one of France’s top two regions for producing this fantastic varietal.
When we were offered the 2003 Cote Rotie La Sarrasine from Domaine de Bonserine we insisted on a sample due to the large point discrepancy between Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate. While we think it might deserve just a bit less than Wine Spectator has scored it, we found the wine far better than the Wine Advocate’s score. Our note is as follows:
“Deep ruby red with purple rim. Youthful, leathery, smoky, floral nose. Middle-weight on the palate with pleasing fruit. Quite elegant with no hint of over-ripeness sometimes found in this vintage. Drink over the next 3-5 years.” - The Chicago Wine Company
As with many of the supplier clearance deals we have seen in the last few months, we expect demand to be very strong so we recommend acting quickly if you are interested. After all…it is not every day you can have a Cote Rotie as a house wine.

“93 out of 100…Fleshy plum, fig and blackberry fruit is backed by roasted coffee bean and tar notes. Avoids being jammy or soft thanks to the olive-, iron- and lavender-driven finish. Drink now through 2021. 1,565 cases made.” - WS
“(84-86) out of 100…Slightly hollow and superficial, the 2003 Cote Rotie La Cote Rotie la Sarrasine lacks color saturation.” - WA
