2003 Clio and 2003 Shaefer Graacher Domprobst Spatlese

So I’m trying to decide…spanish…or aussie…I compromised on a spanish wine made by an aussie! Enjoyed while helping my neighbor with her babies (no, sweety, that’s not meant to be fingerpaint…oh, well, it’ll clean up).

  • 2003 Bodegas El Nido Jumilla Clio - Spain, Murcia, Jumilla (8/9/2009)
So lock up your daughter and lock up your wife, lock up your back door and run for your life…It’s a spanish wine with fruit! Luscious raspberries and black current, coupled with meaty overtones. A little oaky upon opening, but it receded into the fruit shortly thereafter. Thickly textured and glyceral, but not cloying, buoyed by its acidity. Excellent. My friend liked it even more than I did. (93 pts.)
  • 2003 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese #9 - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (8/9/2009)
Notions of apricot, red apples and pears, interlaced with slate and a distinct smoky flavor. Medium-bodied, not flabby, but certainly not taut either. Curiously dry tasting. Not exactly what I was expecting, but tasty (90 pts.)
