Medium ruby and starting to brick slightly. The color here as well as in the "02 Charmes, Combottes, Sorbes and Ruchots is darker than usual for a Truchot wine. Expressive perfume of earth, dark fruits, flowers and mushrooms. Flavors of earth and dark fruits fill the mouth. A streak of minerals emerge after 30 minutes and carries into a long finish. Superb balance and elegance that suggests Chambolle more than Morey. After an hour and a half, the wine shut down. Hold for several more years if you have any. This bottle showed better than the one drunk at release.
Two thousand two was the last vintage when I could back up the proverbial truck and buy as much of Truchot as I wanted from the old Sam’s. Once upon a time, Sam’s had multiple vintages of almost the entire range of Truchot wines at prices so low they could make one . How about $55 for the '99 Charmes, for example? Back then, very few were interested in Truchot and the wines gathered dust on the racks. Those days are long gone…
