A few years ago I was at a couple of Ridge tastings with older Zins and I said to myself that I had to age some and not drink them young. Last night, I had one of the first results of my new found patience, a 2002 Geyserville. Boy was that beautiful. Just layers of flavors somehow both wild and restrained at the same time. A joy to drink.
How nice to hear, as I have one stashed away, which has a similar story. I’d been served a couple of old Geyservilles and Lytton Springs around the time the 02s were coming on the market – the first well-aged Ridge zins I’d had in many years – and I decided to lay away an 02 Geyserville and a couple of Lytton Springs. Sounds like I ought to pull one out!
Geyserville (not to mention Lytton Springs) is so good with age. Still working through my 1997 and 1999 bottles.
