While the 1991 remains the favorite vintage I’ve had, the 2001 was a great wine in it’s own right. Wine was decanted about 5 hours. Nose showed leather, coffee, lead and dark ripe fruit. While it is still a youthful big wine, the amazing balance of fruit and acid was simply amazing with a plush mouthfeel of concentrated flavors of cassis, espresso and sweet tannins The Montebello is among the most balanced cabs from CA and the 2001 was no exception. Powerful.& concentrated yet this tremendous balance.
One of my favorite Bellos.
Nice note Aunt Tony!
Are you referring to balance in the wine, or your ability to fall asleep on a barstool?
