2001 Quilceda Creek Cabernet

Thought I would pop one on my B-day with a rib roast just to see what is going on…not much is going on. The wine was decanted for several hours and it was very tight with just a hint of a bouquet peaking in and out. Mostly dark cassis on the palate with lots of tannin. The nose was a bit alcoholic that morphed into a perfume of something I cannot describe (it was nice but fleeting). Either this wine will require extended time it the cellar, or it just is going to be tasteless and suck. My first QC that did not deliver. I will sit on the rest to see if something unfolds in say 8 years.

Exactly the same experience 4 months ago. I hope you saved some for next day Im curious.

Oh thanks for reminding me. Next day it was even worse…nothing but colored tannic water. rolleyes [bleh.gif]

Crapola. I’m sitting on 6 of these.

Patience, patience. It will be fine in 3-5 years.

I have never gotten the QC thing. Maybe one of the most over-hyped wines of all time. I have had many and have never been blown away by any of them.

I’ll see your 3-5 and raise you 8. This is the most closed QC I have ever had. Even prior vintages gave something. The QC website says 8 years is the charm…oh except for 01.

Yeah, it was pretty tannic on release–far from charmless as some allege, just beastly like the 1994.
