2000 Boisrenard CdP Domaine de Beaurenard

Opened to have with veal stew. No much there. Nice and very dark, but no nose or palate presence. On day 2 a little heat. Very poor showing. I’ll let the 01s sleep. This wine was either closed or not very good to begin with. Since the 2000 vintage was an early maturing and approachable vintage, this makes me wonder about this one. Off bottle perhaps? Not been having much luck lately with CdP.

Be careful with the 2001. It is very oaky and manipulated. I am not sure it will get any better with age - rather the opposite. If you like chocolate and vanilla in your wines, you’ll love the 2001.

I enjoyed the 1998 of this wine, and not really since.

That’s too bad. The last CdP I really enjoyed was a 2000 Bois de Boursan which tasted like CdP and it was $28 too boot! [dance-clap.gif]

Is it me or do all the top rated high $$ wines seem to lack typicity (or terrior if you prefer)? My Pegau from 00 did not delight last time I tried it. More cellar time hopefully…

Bois de Boursan makes excellent Chateauneuf. Yes, I think a lot - not all -of the top rated CdPs lack typicity. Some people like that. I certainly don’t.

Count me in the same camp.

+1. Had the '01 last night, in a lineup of 10 CdP’s. Somehow, it got 3 votes (out of 10) for WOTN … it was my least favorite of the evening. Tons of oak and tons of alcohol. The '04 that I had about a month or two ago was much better.

Agreed. I was not happy with this wine when I tasted it on release and am not expecting much improvement with the handful I have left.
