1996 Henriot "Cuvée des Enchanteleurs" --Alex offer for $109

Not sure how much of a deal it is but I got a couple. I love Henriot, great vintage, special cuvee, so I will take a bite.

BTW, I looked at the Schrader site, and I did order the 08’s. [dance-clap.gif]

Decent domestic price but not great. Bought some overseas for about $80.
Very good wine though but needs a few more years of bottle age.

I agree with Ray on this. I really like this wine and think $109 is good for a US price. Maybe this gets down to $99 somewhere in the US, but this is supposed to be $150+ so $109 isn’t too bad. The lowest I bought at was right around $70 in France, but that was when the Euro was much weaker against the dollar.

This wine is fantastic - had some last night, and the nose is expressive as can be, once it has a few hours open. Wow - if it ever gets near $80, I’ll load up.

My wholesale cost is 155. Even at 110 I’d be very happy.

Our wholesaler for that product buys their wine from a Virginia wholesaler, so there is another markup added to my cost. Sometimes Maryland and Virginia retail is about my wholesale.

the regular 96 bottling ain’t too shabby either. Held up surprisingly well next to the 96 Krug a few months ago and still on the upslope, IMO. . Senor Posner had an excellent price on this so I picked up half a case.

That is true as well - '96 Henriot has become widely available recently at a great price - $44-50, depending on who is selling it - and is a fantastic bottle of wine.

I paid $150 for mine ( the same one Todd had)…I was pleased at $150, so for $109, I’d definitely buy

The 95 Enchanteleurs was a bit “kooky” with pricing too. I saw it anywhere from $89 to $169 across the US right after it came out. I didn’t ask why, I just bought at a lower price. Recently Europe has had very attractive pricing on the 88-96 vintages of this wine (all released direct from Henriot) and all are very, very good.

In regards to the 96 Henriot Millesime, this is a very good wine and one that is priced very well. Again, a great wine to pick up if you are in France as it is still found for 30 Euros (and sometimes a little under) in a number of places.

I forgot who offered it a ways back, but the 88 and 95 were like $95 as you mentioned. Back up the truck pricing for sure.

Brad or others, how does Henriot decide what makes it into the Enchanteleurs cuvee vs. the millesime?

Henriot, like most non-vineyard specific bottlings, has a general guideline for what grapes go into the Enchanteleurs, but there are no hard rules. It is essentially the best grapes from a vintage. These tend to come from the same group of plots year after year, but there are always little things that can change based on what the vintage gives you.

It has been especially tough over the years as the vineyards Henriot once owned were gobbled up by Clicquot and LVMH which left them to slowly have to grow their estate grape ownership while holding on to long term contracts. In fact, all of the current Enchanteleurs on the market were made by Clicquot when Henriot was in the LVMH fold (ever notice the similarity in the Grande Dame and Enchanteleurs bottle shape). Henriot and Clicquot had their seperate grape supplies and different visions for theire respective final products, but the Clicquot winemaking team made both. Even after Joseph Henriot started Henriot up outside of LVMH in the mid-90s, it took a while longer for a winemaking team to be developed and a complete divorce from Clicquot to happen.
