1995 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot D'Alsace & 07 Gobelsburger Gruner

Also consumed at Cambodian fest…these two accompanied Scallops with Kaffir Lime leaves. I made the mistake of eating one of the leaves…intense.

1995 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot d’Alsace
some worry this would be over the hill and while there was a slight oxidative note in the wine, it didn’t stop me enjoying this terrific elixir. It’s rich with honey, apricot and slate. Rich on the palate yet seemingly light as well…I thought it went well with the scallops.

2007 Gobelsburger Gruner Veltliner
This was much more austere than the ZH. Showy racy acidity, with some hints of red fruit but really dominated by green apple, spicy pears and a slight tropical/banana note. Definitely a nice wine but didn’t pair well with the scallops…to racy, to lean…would have been better with some else…I would definitely buy it again though

I’m assuming the ZH was a Pinot Gris? No way a 15 year old ZH should be over the hill. That’s prime drinking territory for those I have found.

A bit late, but pinot d’Asace is not pinot gris.

Correct, it was not the Pinot Gris. The color was a little advance which led us to believe it may be oxidizing, as well as a small confirmation on the palate. But I thought it was terrific.
