Not showing much age really - excellent deep color, rich fruit, but softened and without astringent tannins. A high percentage of Cab Franc the label says (45% I think it said, the rest Cabernet Sauvignon). Very attractive and flavorful.
The 1995 right now is irresistible. Maybe the most pleasurable cab-based Napa wine for drinking right now for my palate.
I’ve got a fair amount of younger Viader. Thanks for the data point!
I used to drink Viader in the late 90s and enjoyed them very much, but something seemed to have happened as they became less and less interesting to me and then they sort of left my field of vision altogether. Haven’t had any in quite a few years.
I can’t remember what Parker thought, but back in the day, James Laube was a huge proponent of Viader.
What he said.
Alan (the winemaker) his sister Janet (sales and marketing) and their mother Delia Viader are some of the nicest people in Napa Valley. The wines are consistently outstanding. Haven’t had the pleasure of the earlier wines but the current releases are great.
Have never had a bad bottle but stopped buying after 1996. I still have a vertical 1992-1996. 1992 was my favorite. Must checkin on these.
