1994 Corison Cabernet

Deep crimson color. Aromas are redolent of red currant and black plum, with herbal, spicy notes, maybe even a hint of eucalyptus, very New World aromas. The palate is still young and fresh, but with a nicely developed texture; moderately abundant but polite tannins. The fruit profile is more red than black, plums subordinated to red currant and some cherry. This has fine balance and length with a pleasingly peppery note on the finish. Rated 93.3, very drinkable now but could improve a point over the next few years.

Thanks for this note. I’m heading to a place on Thursday that has some early to mid 90s Corison Napa Valley Cabernet available. I’ve had the 91 and 97 and loved them both (97 a bit more then the 91). I’ve always had my eye on picking up some of the 94 to 96 if they were still available but never did so just because I wasn’t sure if they were still drinking well. I just really enjoy this style of wine and think I’m going to grab a bottle Thursday based on your note here.

Love Corison, thanks for the note.

I have a 90 Corison that’s been stored very poorly since I acquired it (1996 or 7- I won a server contest at this fine dining place that I was no where near qualified to work [basic-smile.gif] ) The only thing I knew at the time was that cost a lot so I never drank it. It came with me through college and apt’s to apt’s until it settled in this house for the last 10 years…

So all these years later I still have it and just this summer I bought a 2009 Corison on a lark at the shop.

Anyway blahblah

Terry - the time is now to drink it!

I agree with Joe. I opened a 2003 last week - it seemed more like a 2012, very fresh and vibrant (even after a two-hour decant). It is pretty widely know that Cathy makes her Cabs to last - acidic while young but with great aging potential. A '96 (or '97) is probably peaking now and may continue to do so for the next 5 years. As long as the poor conditions didn’t include excessive heat you may be surprised to find out that its terrific! Take a leap.

As far as the topic of this string though - I have only bought a case while tasting at the winery and meeting Cathy. But after that one last week I will probably go out and get some more…

Matt- yo buddy! Don’t you always agree with me?

I had the 2004 Kronos last week. Good… But better with air. Cathys wines reward patience. Love them!

One of the best recommendations (including the rib cap with this) you ever made! [cheers.gif]

I had my first aged Corison earlier this year. Beautiful wine.

The 94 is killer right now. I love this wine.

Cathy keeps her eyes forward and true to her vision. One of my most admired in Napa Valley.
