1993 Lynch Bages & 2004 Leoville Poyfere

1993 Château Lynch-Bages - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (11/10/2009)
Popped and poured. Drank over about 4 hours. Still very fresh. Lots of herbs and leather on the nose. The tannins are soft and integrated. Nice texture and the right amount of tannin and acid to make everything work. (91 pts.)

2004 Château Léoville Poyferré - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (8/31/2009)
Had over 3 days. On the first day it was next the the 2004 VC Certan which was sadly corked to high heaven.
The nose was very nice. Spicy, sappy and leathery. With time there was more brambly along with an iron quality. The dark flavors worked great with the lightish mouthfeel and abundant acidity. Built for food. High acid and medium tannin. It is a bit animal. On the 3rd day it was a bit sour and slightly sherried. (91 pts.)

Cheers,

Jason

But…but…this was rated an 86, and it was green and the vintage is no good, and it should be over the hill…and…

Have you seen any 04 Bordeaux discounts recently?, been expecting to find more around.

RT

86 … really. Well I could see that. This wine does have some green qualities that I we enjoyed very much. It was not under ripe or lean. But if your looking for rich goopy fruit … go elsewhere.

I haven’t seen many discounts but I am only really following Winex on that front. Going to go by today and see what they have going.

If you do find '04 discounts, grab Pontet Canet and Larcis Ducasse - both are phenomenal bottles, IMHO
