1990 Solaia - what makes a great wine?!

1990 Antinori “Solaia” Toscana IGT

“What makes a great wine? My answer is, a relationship between you and the wine. Many wines age well and are well-made; but only a few are great. A great wine has the characteristics of a great friend or loved one. You think about it when you don’t have it; you look forward to having it again; and you are excited to see it arrive in the room. Change the “it” to him or her and you have the essence of a relationship. Great wines are personal.”
Piero Antinori

Well-spoken. Here we have a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese und 5% Cabernet franc. Solaia is „bottled Sex“, absolutely bewitching from start to the end. Shows the structure of a Bordeaux and the hedonistic element of a Tuscan wine. And what an ELEGANCE. In addition some withered notes which fits perfectly. Has reached the peak, but good years ahead. Honoured with 94/100 by Parker and 96-97/100 by WS. Real Grandezza!!!
