last two bottles did not show in this one’s league! this cork was perfect with bottom 1/4" saturated and the rest nice and dry. 1st whiff had some “stewed” smell but also really obvious fruit so i knew we were going places. stewed thing blew off nearly immediately. wine had the mildest rust color @ the rim but was otherwise uniform and a bit darker than 100% Zin should be. obviously this bottle has both Petite Sirah and Carignan present in equal 18% proportions. nose was full of fruit, maybe some jam/preserves aspects and a touch of men’s club too. mouthfeel was very round and lush and gobs of darker fruit noted with some tobacco? tannins integrated now and seamless. finish was lonnnnnggg, glorious wine that seemed a recent vintage with some bottle age in most respects.
Nice note! I have a 95 Lytton Springs and a few older York petites I’ve been meaning to pop. Maybe we need to do an aged Ridge night in the near future!
Nice note, Glenn - I don’t think I have any Geyserville left from '90, but I still have the '92 & '93 vintages in house, and I know I’ve got a bottle of the '90 Howell Mountain Zin floating around somewhere. Draper did great work in '90, IMO.
I can still remember how this wine tasted circa 1992. I never figured it would go the distance, and therefore drank mine up 15 years ago. I see from yours and other notes that it’s still going strong. Brings back many fond memories…
