mission fine wines, Staten island. Ask for deb. Tell her King Cab sent you. [whistle.gif]

Have you been there before? I’ve seen some prices online before that I liked, but don’t know anything about the place.

Yes, its a hole in the wall not really set-up for walk-ins. But I have anyway. Storage conditions are OPTIMUM.

Mike,

Was doing a search on MFW and saw this thread. I am looking at some things they have on their site…good to hear about storage; any general opinions on the provenance of their older wines?

Feel free to PM if you prefer…thanks in advance. Happy to hear from others who have feedback to share, privately or publicly.

Cheers

Peter

wow. nice price.

Mark,
while the price seems good I have my doubts:

I had a half case each of the 1982 and 1983 - and I always preferred the 1983. The 1982 isn´t as bad as the Parker score of 75 indicates, but the wine was always lacking definition and elegance and came across as “plummy”, “flabby” and one-dimensional. I drank the last one a good 6-7 years ago and thought it to be in decline … (around 82 points)

1983 if well stored and inexpensive can be a very good drink (without great enthusiasm …)

Gerhard

The last time I had this wine it was very average. Same thing with the time before that (probably 2004).

The 82 was not good. 79 and 81 were pleasant while the 83, 86 and 89 were very good wines but I drank them a long time ago…well, I do have a few 89’s left but it is on the way down. I would suspect the 82 to be shot.

'86 is definitely not shot - still going strong and is a delicious mature Bordeaux. The '86, by the way, is a major bargain if well stored. I doubt that '82 would be shot.

At least IMO, '86 was an atypically big, almost brawny Priuere - not too surprising in retrospect given how we know the vintage as a whole has developed. That said, my experience with PL tends to mirror Ed Bernasky’s - the '89 is definitely in decline, the '86 still very nice but atypical, and I can literally think of hundreds of wines I would rather spend a $100 on than the '82.
