So my brother is turning 30 in Oct. and he is a tried and true Cali head. So i’m wanting to score him a birth year Cab. I know 79 was pretty hit or miss but the wines that look pretty strong on Cellar Tracker ( or some recent notes seem to point in that direction) are the Ridge MB’s, Diamond Creek, Caymus, and Mayacamas.
Anyone familiar of late.

Go Mayacamas.
Hard to beat in those days.
Yes the notes on CT seem to point in that direction.
It has been a few years but last time I had the Mayacamas it was rockin.

If you like aged wines, many are drinking a point right now. They’re holding up much better than the 1980 vintage. Not a lot of lush fruit, but good acidic backbones. Have recently had Clos du Val, BV Private Reserve and the Rutherford, Mondavi (non reserve), and Jordan. All were pretty good. The Mondavi was exceptional.
