1978 Gruaud-Larose and 1975 Wynn's Coonawarra Estate Cab Sauv - slow ox or decant?

Friends,

1978 Chateau Gruaud-Larose
1975 Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

I’m going to be opening these wines to enjoy this weekend for my fathers 70th birthday. After carefully pulling the corks (hopefully without incident) what would be the best way to baby these wines through consumption? Full decant or just pull the cork and let it sit in bottle? These wines were stored perfectly since release and from eyeballing show no signs of any problems. Fill lines still into the neck, etc…

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Cheers,
Rob

Hi Rob

Not sure about the 75 Wynns (sounds good thouugh) but over Christmas we had a 78 Pichon Baron that I popped and poured off the sediment, into a decanter and left for about half an hour before serving. It showed beautifully. Thats the sort of treatment i’d be giving to the Gruaud.

Hope this helps

Chris
