1975 BV Cabernet, 96 Lassalle Special Club, 06 Carlisle Zin

1975 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Aged to perfection - perhaps the best older bottle I’ve tasted other than a 1975 Ridge Petite Sirah. Classic aged Cali Cab nose of cedar and mild eucalyptus, blends in some chocolate, anise and black licorice as it sits in the glass. Still packed with fruit for an old wine with ample tannin to boot. Stored immaculately, cork came out in one piece. Stunned by how good this was. (btw, not the GdL, this is the regular ol Napa cab)

1996 Lassalle Special Club

Very pinot driven and just starting to round out in the mouth. Beautiful caramel-laced finish. Not near peak.

2006 Carlisle Sonoma County Zinfandel

Oddly, I’d say this is an outstanding Zin despite a kiss of warmth on the finish. Normally, heat=defeat in my mind. But there’s a lot of briary fruit, pepper and spice that keeps the wine from being simple or boring. Lots of acidity too keeps the wine fresh and juicy.

Thanks for the note on the BV, the ones I’ve had were hit or miss.

Thatsss nyce!

Bought it for chump change on WineBid, thinking it would just be a bottle I’d hang onto forever as a birthyear wine.

The other night, figured I’d pop it out of curiousity and I was blown away.

Whoever owned it prior stored it like a champ though.

The 75 Gdl is on Winebid now with a starting bid of $40.

Ugh -if only I had the dough.
