Birth year wine decanted for sediment. Strong musty odor and age at first. Over time blew of and turned enjoyable. Light red cherry and tobacco notes 12% alc. I’m not trading in my blueberry smoothies just yet, but this was surprisingly enjoyable to drink.
It sounds like it was very representative. Thanks for letting us know how this wine is holding up!
I recently had the 1985 Reunion, which was still quite robust, complex, yet elegant.
Wouldn’t this have been from before John Daniels sold Inglenook to United Vintners? Was this their regular Cab or the Cask? Either way, a real California classic!!!
What is the difference between Reunion , Cask etc. ?
My dad sold that btl on release in his store for around $4.50 back then. it was very fresh and almost grapey. Really enjoyable on release. I actually preferred the reg btl to the “Cask” which could be a little rustic on release.
I believe the sale was in '63 and he stayed on as an advisor until '66, although I could be mistaken.
