1966 and 1988 Bordeaux

  • 1988 Château Cos d’Estournel - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe (1/26/2010)
drinking perfectly with all of the hallmarks of bordeaux at its peak - fragrant aromas of plums, cassis, wood, cedar, mint, iron - full bodied, elegant and a long endearing finish - tannins, acid, fruit are all in perfect balance. Wow - a terrific reminder to hold off on drinking any of my young bordeaux - give them time. (95 pts.)
  • 1966 Château Langoa Barton - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (1/26/2010)
44 years later and this baby still has legs - fully saturated cork topped by some mold made me nervous but then bright and wonderfully fresh red fruit was revealed lifted by a tasty tart substrate and accompanied by mellowed tannins with a soft lingering finish. nice surprise and delightfully delicious!
