1964 Vosne Romanée “Les Echezeaux” , tete de cuvée.

This well-stored bottle with 3 cm of ullage, was bottled by Robbers & van den Hoogen N.V. Arnhem. There is still a core of ruby here with moderate bricking around the edges. A simply brilliant nose with spice, earth, leather and smoke. Sweet, ripe, round on the palate with some soft acidity poking through. To be sure this was perfectly pleasant and interesting to drink !

By the way is this tete de cuvée Grand Cru or Village?

Sounds kinda cool.

Sounds like wine from the lieu-dit “Les Echezeaux”(-du Dessus) which is Grand Cru.
I once had an English bottle with a similar wording … negociants in foreign countries didn´t care much about correct AOC - and Tête de Cuvée points to a superior batch - so I suppose, yes: Grand Cru.
Congrats ! And 1964 is a fine vintage!

Thanks Gerhard! I do no doubt it, I suppose Echezeaux was often sold as Vosne-Romanée because it sold under the appellation better than it did when declared as Echezeaux. Things have changed …
