1945 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti just sold for $812,500

Is it possible to visit DRC for $812,500 or less? Do they even allow visitors?

But the Banksy might!

Do you think someone with a net worth of 4M would buy a $800 bottle?

Someone worth 4b could buy that without a second though AND be more likely to be able to write off the cost.

I am eating my pop-corn …

There are 3400 billionaires in the world, and for those with a mere one billion dollars, that amounts to a week’s worth of interest at 5% annually.

So, a (hypothetical) follow-up question: if somehow a bottle of this wine came your way would you: a) drink it with friends who would appreciate it, b) add it your collection (i.e., not drink it), or c) sell it and pocket the cash?

I don’t know if the money would get you in, but I can think of a bottle that might.

Must be an important Supreme Court case coming up!

Regarding the wealth question: only if I had grown up with the money. If I had to earn the wealth myself, I’d know the value of the money and wouldn’t be able to talk myself into it.

Thanks Robert. I will take a look.

and puts it in a temp controlled vault

I had this wine 45’ish years ago in a tasting of 1945 French wine. It was a wonderful wine.

Exactly. These things are just assets to these people

I’d try to avoid the “these people” formulation, but certainly there is a chance of that

Sorry but I have no sympathy for Billionaires.

Perhaps I should have said something like, 'If you can afford it, would you buy it."
My intent was just to see what people would do because it is DRC.
Afterall, we love excellent Burgundy.

Personally, I would not buy it. I agree, there are many more useful and charitable ways to spend that amount of money that would make a lot of people happy.

Part of me expects to see it perpetually preserved behind bulletproof glass like the Mona LIsa in Glass Onion

Which one asked for your sympathy?

Similar answer to the one I gave above.

If money were truly no object, I’d drink it with friends or donate it.

If money mattered, I wouldn’t have bought it in the first place.

If it was bequeathed to me (without an accompanying billion or so to make money irrelevant), I’d sell it.

This is why Neal’s collection is heavy on Klimt, with nary a Banksy. Plus, he

I’m guessing the only reason it wasn’t purchased by @MChang is because it wasn’t a pallet full
