Any feelings yet on this vintage ? What was the weather like ? I feel like we used to get early reports on conditions.

Trying to figure out my buying strategy vs 18’s. Not sure 18 is my cup of tea.

I guess 18 is just in my wheelhouse. If 19 is similar good I would be happy because enough wine will be available. And the Bourgogne and village wines will be ripe and satisfying, not only the 1ers and Grands Crus which are very expensive anyway in most cases.

i believe it was quite a bit more hot in 19 than 18?

Haven’t seen either yet, so hard to tell.

2019 is a hot vintage as 2018 also is. My understanding is 2019 are less dense than 2018. Other feature seems to be lower levels of alcohol (1 to 1.5 degree less) in 2019 which some will like. Quantities not that high.

I have tasted a few 2019s, including my own Chambolle-Musigny, and my very early and informal impressions (which I wouldn’t yet put in print - this is very provisional stuff) is that 2019 is quite a surprising vintage: weather conditions were if anything more extreme than 2018, yet the wines are livelier and more elegant. There is an energy in what I have tasted that’s quite exciting (and this would also appear to apply to the Beaujolais). So I think any notion that it’s 2018-mark two looks to be mistaken. I’m certainly looking forward to tasting the wines systematically later this year.

In reds it’s similar or a bit lower to 2019 from what I hear; but in whites, quite a bit higher. Hard to generalize from one domaine to another though.

it seems that both 18 and 19 will bring us very good wines and hopefully even at the Bourgogne and village level. And in the Macconais and Chalonaise.

Indeed, my quote about alcohol content was only about reds at one single producer… Very early…

I make just two barrels of Chambolle-Musigny for fun. I’m finding it’s a great way to learn about each new vintage, so it complements my day job rather than distracts from it. My dream retirement project is getting together a few hectares and making my own wine.
