Hmm… it’s not that I want to bash their food photography but looking at the top 3 there’s not one burger in there that makes me think I’d like to eat it. They look horrid - especially with the kind of sesame-pretzely buns they use (we seriously need a puking graemlin).
#4 starts to look appealing but even then not that much. #5 (SF), excuse me?!? #6 (LA) looks horrid. #7 (Philly) - interesting… not sure if I’d have a heart attack before finishing it, or right after. #8 (Atlanta) - is that seriously the best they can do? #9 (Boston) - now that looks interesting #10 (Chicago) - doesn’t look bad - but to be in the top 12 regular burger buns are forbidden? #11 (NO) - looks like somebody took a crap on a cow turd or something - DNPIM #12 (Santa Fe) - is this a joke?
I think they posted an April’s Fool article in July by mistake.
But we’re supposed to be talking about the best 12 burgers in the whole “Burger Nation”. I’m sure you can have a better burger in SF than a patty with some blue cheese slapped on it?
Pie-n-Burger makes a pretty tasty hamburger and nice fresh fruit pies. It’s an old-time diner a Pasadena institution. While the photograph does the food no favors, I can’t imagine this is one of the 12 best burgers in America. I like the place, but even I’ve had 12 better burgers.
I lived in Pasadena for a few years and enjoyed the place. It’s worth a visit if in Pasadena (although Pasadena has pretty good food…Tre Venezie, Saladang, Bistro 45, El Taquito truck, etc.), but I don’t think it’s LA’s best burger. I have a slight preference for Apple Pan over Pie-n-Burger, but, to be honest, prefer Fathers Office to either of them. 8oz Burger makes a nice burger also.
G, the H&F burger here is pretty legendary. Perhaps the pic doesn’t do it justice but it is bad ass. There are certainly a number of folks on this board who can vouch for its awesomeness. Even French Toast had one when he was here!
It’s INSANE!!! The richest burger you could ever imagine. I don’t think it had much meat, just a double patty of corn-fed beef fat, covered in some awesome, super rich cheese, and a greasy bun.
Unfortunately I had to eat it in the company of Faux Hawk and Meathead, but this burger was good enough to overcome even THAT.
