Haven’t seen a TN here in a while. Are they living up to the release hype? Are some shut down? Are few/some/most going to improve with time, or fall apart?
Cheers,
Warren

I’m letting mine rest, most I’ve tried over the past year seem to be either closed or in an awkward phase.
I’ve left mine alone, too.
Had 2009 Foillard Morgon Cote du Py this week, terrific wine. Tons of layered cherries and nice tannins. Enjoyed with grass-fed beef.
Pulled an 09 Lappiere Morgon from storage last night, perhaps popping tonight.
I can’t help with 2009’s. I would expect them to be grumpy, but you could get lucky. Were I to open one, I would try Foillard or Lapierre – Glen’s sounds promising – rather than Desvignes or Coudert. I had 2008 Foillard CdP last weekend, and it seemed oddly advanced, lovely, but advanced. A 2008 Brun Morgon was in a great spot, fresh and delicious.
Sold a couple cases of them last year, so I’ll never know. Proceeds were used on a few bottles of Bartolo and Jamet, so I’m happy how they turned out.
Honesty, I fell prey to the hype and bought more than I should have, since I found the vintage to be too homogenous and dense for my tastes. Really enjoyed several 2007’s and 2008’s, but they seemed to fall apart by about 2012. I bailed on 2009 while they still had some value.
They are in a good spot and de-lish. What else is there to know? Drink and be happy
Robert, please post notes if you do. Last bottle of the 2009 Lapierre I popped was in a funky place, almost like a combo of the silky, fruity wine it was on release and the more earthy, secondary characteristics of the 2008 (which is ready to go, imho). It just seemed angry about being opened.
Agreed with others on the 2009 Foillard Cote du Py, of all the 2009’s I’ve tasted from the last year or so this showed the most beautifully but still needed a good 45-60 minutes of air before uncoiling.
not drinking the 2009’s when the 2011’s are so good right now

Now bear in mind that I have the palate of a yak, but your description of the '09 is on point, but it’s turning the corner. Nose is still a bit muted. I’m with Suzanne, drinking the '11s like Koolaide, they are so lip-smacking good. Sit on your '09s. I have a 6-pack of '09 Roilette Griffe du Marquis coming in soon, I’m gonna sit on them too.
Robert, thx, and now I’m absolutely thinking about trying another one in late 2014 to early 2015…which will also help me assess when to open the 1 mag I’m holding. Totally agreed with both you and Suzanne on the 2011’s, so great right now, both Lapierre & Foillard included. Just a great vintage, and more classic than 2009.
Not to mention it’s also great to travel further up north…drinking a 2010 Jadot CdN-Villages “Le Vaucrain” that’s just delicious.
'09 Lapierre last weekend made me wonder if I should have drank them all young as they were so tasty on release (I’m not afraid of fruit…). Definitely in a weird stage, hopefully they come out the other side better than where they started. Consumed over about 3 hours and the air did absolutely nothing to help it unwind.
Justin, thx for the additional perspective. Fyi, all of my bottles and the one I’m talking about from last year are the “s” version.
FIFY.
The 09 Lapierre on release was crazy good. I’m not worried, it’s just a bit shut down. It’s actually quite decent just not showing all of its goods. I’ve had it open since around 5 PM EST, so 3+ hours.
FWIW Mel felt air wasn’t kind to the Foillard the other evening, I thought it was just lovely and paired well with filets from our new grass-fed source over the 120 minutes it was open.
Remember Craigster, Yaks get all the chicks . . . .
Give it some time. I would expect the 09 to come around. Last 05 I opened (S ) was singing.

Good lord! I had no idea there was Yak Porn.
