07 NAVARRO PINOT GRIS V 07 BREGGO PINOT GRIS - Our House (Rockridge, Oakland, CA) (5/1/2009)
Both of these were opened to accompany a very delicious farfalle pasta with bacon and endives…great combination between the wines and the dish!

2007 Breggo Cellars Pinot Gris Wiley Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
Popped and poured and drinking very well. It’s richer than the Navarro (not necessarily better just richer/more unctuous). More peach, honey, spice and a little melon flavors in a pretty full bodied but crisp package. It is a little sweeter as well, suggesting that it may have a little more RS than the Navarro but i really enjoyed it and it went very well with the farfalle with bacon and endives. (90 pts.) -

This Pinot Gris also paired very well with the farfalle with bacon and endive dish. It was actually opened on Thurs night and Traci had a small glass while I cooked. I didn’t try it save a small sip to make sure it wasn’t corked. Closed up, back in the fridge and then opened with dinner. Traci felt it was a little austere on night 1. On night 2, much better. Palate filled out, the wine opened up. More spicy pear, lime, pepper and maybe a little vanilla. It’s crisp and minerally and really terrific. A very small amt of RS but not enough to give you the impression it is “sweet”. Terrific wine and if you have them, give them a couple hours to really pop open. (91 pts.)
