05 Hartford Court Land's Edge

this wine ended up on a few different top 100 lists and just recently i had my 1st not very good to great bottle. was wondering if the wine had entered a weird phase so i popped one tonight while i am basically the walking dead (horrendous emergency surgery from 2100-0100 with lots of awake time resuscitating this guy overnight) and i am so glad i did.

back in that sweet dark spot with black cherries and a whiff of terra firma meets sea, lovely mouthfeel and elongated finish that is more than just sugar but something worth noticing. no clue what was wrong with the last bottle but this one was alright now!

Glenn, I think the 05 HC are terrific wines and the last made by Mike Sullivan. That being said, sometimes there arent’ great wines, just great bottle.s

Tony - i am like 5/6 with this particular bottle so i am not crying. still have 1/2 a case to finish too. who is winemaker now?

I forget but I was less than impressed with the 06’s. They seemed to me to be made wines…like made to a formula…

i only have 2006 Arrendell.and i hope they didn’t F up that always unique PN.

the winemaker is Jeff Mangahas (spelling ?) , he started at Hartford in '06 I think. Most of their wines are enjoyable. the Stone Cote Chard is really good

maybe my fav CA Chard Carrie under $100. Hanzell too i guess.

That Stone Cote has been one of my faves too…I wish Mike would get that vineyard at Benovia since he seems to be able to amazing things with it…

I have gone through almost two cases of the 05 Lands Edge, and but for one, all were outstanding. In my top 5 for 2008

I had the 06 of this over the weekend and I thought it kicked serious ass!!

I picked up a few of the 05 Land’s Edge for $15 on auction. Superb QPR!!!

I feel that way about all their '06 Pinots.

Glad to hear that about the wines. My experience comes from having run through the lineup last fall at the winery and being severely disappointed…that being said, many of the wines had been open for 3 days (I checked the back of the bottles when the person pouring went into the back). They did grab a bottle of 05 Seascape Chardonnay and pop it open…stunning. I bought 4 bottles.

Jeff is a very good winemaker, and if I didn’t think so, I wouldn’t say anything at all.

I have been impressed by their CH & PN wines (I have tried mostly the '06s) across the board. For some reason, I have not tried many of their Zins, but have heard that these might be even better than the Burgundian varieties (which is saying a lot IMHO).

it is funny but i have never had their Zin before either. sure do drink up their PN & Chard though.

Had another 05 tonight and both Mel & I wondered aloud if we would have a better PN this summer! No cola, no alpine notes just a Crème brûlée of PN, or maybe a well-done flan. Great balance between red & black fruits with good acidity and tasty, lengthy finish. Superb creamy mouthfeel, really elegant & well done. Best bottle of this wine I have had so far, may still be on the upswing but this may be the peak.

anyone taste any of the 07’s?
