Stunning nose of crushed stone and black & red raspberries. Lively acids give lift to the full earth and stone driven body. Black tea and orange peel with anisette hints complicate the palate. The lightish color belies the power of the mid palate. The tea flavors begin to dominate the wine in an hour and the fruit recedes into the background. A strong creosote note comes to the fore. An hour later brings the fruit back around and a more glycerol feel to the mouth. This seems sleepy and in need of a good rest in the cellar. The almost brownish-brick color throws me, but every Calera SVD on the higher end (save the '07s) seem to bear out long cellaring. I do not claim to know how the '07s will age, just that they are out of character (higher alc.) than older efforts.
