Wineshops - Davis to SF, CA

#1 Post by Ron L. » September 13th, 2020, 11:31 pm

This is a question about buying wine (retail) along the I-80 corridor between Davis, CA and downtown SF, CA. Can anyone recommend good wineshops between those two points? I am looking for a place with salespeople more knowledgeable than I (not a high bar) and with more variety than my local supermarket and Costco (also not a high bar). Parking would be a plus. I am aware of Kermit Lynch in Berkeley, and I just discovered online that there is another outpost near the Giants ballpark. And I'm aware of the wineshop in the Ferry Building. And apparently there is a BevMo in Vacaville, and a Total Wine in Pleasant Hill. None of which I have ever stepped foot in! Have I missed anything?

I am also looking for recommendations on online wine shopping. I have never once done that. Is good? Kermit Lynch?

Thank you for any recommendations!

Kermit Lynch is on line only during this pandemic.

Total pros at San Francisco Wine Trading Company.

Believe they are closed to walk-ins right now, but could probably offer you guidance via phone or email.

Jackson's Wines & Spirits - has an excellent array of wines from both new & old world. Not sure if they are still doing tastings now.

Vintage Berkeley - also runs Solano Cellar. Has 2 locations in Berkeley, but the closest one off HWY 24 is on College Ave. It's primarily street parking, but west of Russell St (a block up) is a parking lot.

Saison is doing contactless pickup at Angler on Embarcadero. Order online.

Noe Valley Wine & Spirits offering curbside pickup and delivery.

Verjus (outdoor dining & wine retail) - (their website has been a little buggy for me but hopefully works for you)

Verve Wine offering curbside pickup and delivery -

Spruce Restaurant

There are many, many more.
